Boston Red Sox Recall Pitcher Jon Lester from Double-A Portland
09/02/2007, BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox today recalled lefthanded pitcher Jon Lester from Double-A Portland of the Eastern League.
The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein.
Jon Lester will start Sunday afternoon's game versus Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.
Jon Lester is 2-0 with a 5.67 ERA in six starts with the Boston Red Sox this season. He was optioned to Portland on August 23 and defeated Trenton in his lone start for the SeaDogs on August 27, allowing five hits and one run in 6.0 innings.
The lefthander opened the season on the disabled list while continuing his recovery from lymphoma that required off-season treatment. He went 4-5 with a 4.89 ERA in 14 starts at Triple-A Pawtucket before being recalled by Boston on July 23. Lester is 9-2 with a 5.02 ERA in 21 career major league starts with Boston in 2006-07. With today's move, the Red Sox have 33 players on its active roster.
