Detroit Tigers Acquire Clay Rapada from Chicago Cubs
08/30/2007, DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has acquired left-handed pitcher Clay Rapada from the Chicago Cubs as the player to be named later to complete the trade on Aug. 23 in which outfielder Craig Monroe was sent to the Cubs. Clay Rapada will be assigned to Triple-A Toledo.
Clay Rapada compiled a 7-2 record, 3.58 ERA (55.1IP/22ER) and 17 saves in 55 games with Triple-A Iowa this season. He limited left-handed batters to a .159 batting average (11x69) with Iowa. Rapada saw action in one game with the Cubs this season, retiring the only batter he faced.
In six Minor League seasons with the Cubs organization, Rapada went 21-17 with a 2.93 ERA (313.1IP/102ER) and 47 saves in 234 appearances.
To create a spot for Clay Rapada on the club's 40-man roster, the Tigers today have outrighted the contract of right-handed pitcher Aquilino Lopez to Toledo.
