08/30/2007, CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs today announced that the club has sent outfielder Buck Coats to the Cincinnati Reds for a player to be named. In addition, left-handed pitcher Clay Rapada has been claimed off waivers by the Detroit Tigers. That transaction satisfies the clubs' Aug. 23 trade in which the Chicago Cubs obtained outfielder Craig Monroe and a cash consideration in exchange for a player to be named.

Buck Coats, 25, was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 18th round of the 2000 Draft. With Triple-A Iowa this season, the left-handed batter is hitting .303 (138-for-455) with 21 doubles, 11 home runs and 59 RBI in 123 games. He made his Major League debut with Chicago last season, hitting .167 (3-for-18) in 18 games.

Clay Rapada, 26, is 7-2 with 17 saves and a 3.58 ERA (22 ER/55.1 IP) in 55 relief appearances for Iowa this season. Signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in July of 2002, Rapada made his Major League debut this season, tossing a scoreless 0.1 innings June 14 vs. Seattle.
