Dow AgroSciences Unveils Breakthrough in Multiple Herbicide Tolerance Traits
Midland, MI, August 28, 2007 -- Dow AgroSciences, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, has unveiled an exciting new family of herbicide tolerance traits, now in development, that promise to give growers the upper hand in weed management.
Currently referred to as Dow AgroSciences Herbicide Tolerance, this innovative new technology will provide tolerance to multiple classes of herbicide in many different crop species – allowing farmers to pick and choose between weed-fighting products.
“The rapid adoption of glyphosate-tolerant traits in recent years has spurred a growing issue with resistance to that herbicide in key weeds,” explained Jerome Peribere, Dow AgroSciences president and chief executive officer. “Our new family of traits will significantly expand the herbicide toolbox, ensuring that weeds have a lot less opportunity to build up their resistance.”
“This is another great example of how Dow is aligning its R&D efforts to support the growth of its Performance businesses, using technology to solve some of our customers’ most challenging issues … and creating long-term growth opportunities for the Company,” added Peribere.
Dow AgroSciences estimates launch timing for this technology at 2012 for corn and 2013 or 2014 for soybeans.
Dow AgroSciences also intends to combine its herbicide tolerance traits with the HERCULEX® Insect Protection family of traits – providing growers with the broadest-spectrum, in-plant insect protection available and the best herbicide tolerance package available.
