ABC Family Orders Pilot, "Samurai Girl," from ABC Studios

August 21, 2007 (Burbank, CA) -- ABC Family has ordered one-hour drama pilot, “Samurai Girl,” from ABC Studios, it was announced today by Paul Lee, president of ABC Family. Written by Luke McMullen (“Alias”), the pilot for “Samurai Girl” is based on the first novel in the popular series for young adults, “Samurai Girl: Book of the Sword.” Casting will begin immediately and the pilot will be shot in fall 2007.

“We fell in love with this script,” said Mr. Lee. “It has such a great mix of mythology, action and romance. We’re also thrilled to be working again with ABC Studios who built our defining hit ‘Kyle XY.’”

“Samurai Girl” tells the story of the only survivor of a plane crash: an infant girl, named Heaven by the media and adopted by a wealthy family. When she reaches 19, she learns that her adopters have a secretive dark side and the key to finding the truth lies in the ancient Samurai traditions of her blood ancestors. However, Heaven is a thoroughly modern girl who must manage to squeeze in some time at the mall between warrior lessons. The pilot is being produced by ABC Studios in association with Alloy Entertainment. Bob Levy is executive producer.
