Big Ten Announces Hiring of LaTonya Sadler, Promotion of Valerie Todryk
Communications staff adds Sadler as Associate Director and promotes Todryk to Assistant Director
Aug. 22, 2007 -- Big Ten Commissioner James E. Delany today announced that LaTonya Sadler has been named the Associate Director of Communications while Valerie Todryk has been promoted to Assistant Director of Communications. Sadler will begin her tenure at the Big Ten on Aug. 27 while Todryk will fill her new position beginning on Sept. 1.
Sadler joins the conference office after spending the last four years working at the University of Virginia in a variety of roles, including public relations, fundraising, admissions and internship programs. The Virginia native will be the primary media contact for men's basketball and the secondary contact for football while also working with field hockey, gymnastics, softball and other selected sports. She graduated from Virginia in 1998 before working as a graduate assistant in the Nebraska sports information department during the 1998-99 academic year. Sadler was named the Assistant Director of Media Relations at Northwestern University in August of 1999 and took on the additional role of Publications Coordinator beginning in 2001 until her departure in 2003. At Northwestern, Sadler served as the secondary contact for football while also working with women's basketball, volleyball and men's and women's tennis during her tenure.
Todryk was assigned the title of Assistant Director of Communications after serving as the Big Ten Robert Hammel Communications intern last year. The Wisconsin native will be the primary media contact for women's basketball, serving as the media coordinator for the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament, while working with volleyball, baseball, wrestling, men's and women's golf and other selected sports. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in May of 2006 after serving as a student assistant in the Athletic Communications Department her last three years on campus. At Wisconsin, Todryk was the co-media contact for the softball team and the primary contact for men's soccer, women's tennis and women's cross country. She also served as an intern with the Akron Racers Pro Fastpitch Team and Foundation in the summer of 2004 before working as an intern with the Milwaukee Brewers in the summer of 2005. Upon graduation, Todryk was named the media relations assistant for the Savannah (Ga.) Sand Gnats minor league baseball team before joining the Big Ten.
