Seattle Mariners options LHP John Parrish to AAA Tacoma

08/23/2007, ARLINGTON -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Bill Bavasi announced today that the Seattle Mariners have selected right-handed pitcher Rick White from AAA Tacoma. To make room on the Major League, 25-man roster left-handed pitcher John Parrish has been optioned to AAA Tacoma.

White, 38, will be in uniform (#37) and available for tonight's 5:35 p.m. (PT) game vs. the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. With this transaction, the Mariners 40-man roster is now full.

White signed with the Mariners as a Minor League free agent on July 23 and has appeared in seven games at AAA Tacoma. He is 1-1 with two saves and a 1.00 ERA (1 ER/9.0 IP). He started the season with the Houston Astros, going 1-0 with a 7.67 ERA (25 ER/29.1 IP) in 23 relief appearances. He was released on June 28 and cleared waivers to become a free agent on July 3.

In his 12th Major League season and 18th in professional baseball, White has combined to go 42-53, 4.43 (420 ER/853.1 IP) in 607 appearances/18 starts. In 2000, he ranked 2nd among all Major League relief pitchers with a combined 99.2 IP between Tampa Bay and the New York Mets. He has made nine postseason appearances, going 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA (6 ER/13.0 IP), including pitching for the Mets in the 2000 World Series.

Parrish, 29, was acquired in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles on Aug. 9 in exchange for Minor League OF Sebastien Boucher. In four appearances with the Mariners, Parrish is 0-0 with a 8.44 ERA (5 ER/5.1 IP). Overall in 48 appearances this season between the Orioles and Mariners, he is 2-2, 6.00 (30 ER/45.0 IP).
