New York Homemaker Wins $25,000 in the First-Ever Jeopardy! Google Daily Challenge
CULVER CITY, CA (August 21, 2007) - Shirley Seaman, a 29-year-old mother of five from Greenfield Center, N.Y., is $25,000 richer thanks to the first-ever Jeopardy! Google Daily Challenge. The winner of the grand prize sweepstakes, Seaman was one of nearly 150,000 registered users testing her Jeopardy! skills online by using the nation's #1 search engine, GoogleTM. "I was extremely shocked and speechless," said Seaman. When asked what she'll do with her winnings, she replied, "Part of the money will be used towards a purchase of a new car, and the rest will be placed into my kids' savings account for their future."
Additional winners from the Jeopardy! Google Daily Challenge included two Georgia residents. Janice Johnston, a 43-year-old homemaker from Lindale, Ga., won $10,000. "We are using the money for our first family trip to London," said Johnston. "My kids are huge fans of Harry Potter!" Arthur Davis, a 63-year-old retired accountant from Albany, Ga., took home $5,000.
The winners were randomly selected from all the eligible Sweepstakes Entries received in a drawing held on July 27, 2007. All drawings were conducted and overseen by a sweepstakes administrator from an independent judging organization.
Sony Pictures Television and Google joined forces for 6 weeks beginning June 4 to launch Jeopardy! Google Daily Challenge where fans could go online for a chance to win daily prizes and grand prizes up to $25,000.
Players visited Jeopardy.com seeking a correct response to an additional clue from one of the categories on that day's show using GoogleTM search. With correct responses, the players were then entered into a sweepstakes to win the daily $100 prize or the $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000 grand prizes. New clues were posted on Jeopardy.com every weekday through mid July.
