Cancer, Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness Nights Highlight San Francisco Giants Nine-Game Homestand
08/16/2007, SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants finish a stretch of 31 games in 30 days with a nine-game homestand at AT&T Park. Carlos Zambrano and Aramis Ramirez lead the Chicago Cubs into town for a three-game stint, Aug. 21-23. Prince Fielder and J.J. Hardy of the Milwaukee Brewers follow for a three-game weekend series, Aug. 24-26. The division rival Colorado Rockies come in for their final three-game set of the year in San Francisco, Aug. 27-29.
The Giants have joined the AVON Walk for Breast Cancer fundraising effort to raise awareness and funds for this great cause on Tuesday, Aug. 21. A ticket purchase secures a seat in the View Reserve section and $9 of the purchase price will provide access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer. In addition, the Giants will celebrate Dixie Children's Fund Night. Prior to the game, Barry Bonds will meet with children from the Hunter's Point Boys and Girls Club as part of the Major League Baseball Players Trust's Buses for Baseball program.
Wednesday marks Portola Valley Schools Night presented by Fidelity Investments. The Giants will host the sixth annual Make-A-Wish Night at AT&T Park for local wish children. Festivities include a pregame pizza party and visit by Rich Aurilia, Russ Ortiz, Ryan Klesko and Lou Seal.
While the Giants prepare for a weekend with the Brewers, the Chicago Cubs leave town after a 12:35 getaway game on Thursday, Aug. 23.
Aug. 7, 2007 and Home Run 756 will remain in the hearts of all. Celebrate Barry Bonds' historic accomplishment with Mayor Gavin Newson, former and current teammates of Bonds and all of San Francisco starting at noon on Friday, Aug. 24. This family-oriented event will be held at Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco.
Also on Friday, join the Giants at AT&T Park as we celebrate our third Annual Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Awareness Night! Help raise awareness and funds as we gather for a great night of Giants baseball. Funds raised will support the Society's mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Be one of the first 40,000 fans to the park and receive the Conversation with Barry Bonds DVD. Fans are encouraged to come to the yard and show their Giants spirit by donning as much orange as possible in honor of Orange Friday.
WAKE UP...with the Giants! The first 7,500 kids, 14 & younger, to come through the gates on Saturday, Aug. 25, will receive a Kleenex/Lucky Retro Alarm Clock. Come join Russ Ortiz and a number of Giants and Brewers players in a post game event during the seventh Annual Fellowship Day at AT&T Park. The presentation atop the Giants dugout will include testimonies shared by ballplayers and will also feature praise and worship from San Francisco's very own Cornerstone Band. A family friendly event assured to be enjoyable to fans of all ages.
The first 20,000 fans to arrive at AT&T Park on Aug. 26 will receive Emerald Nuts Giants Topps Trading Cards. The Giants will also be celebrating Bank of America Junior Giants Day. Over 4,000 Junior Giants players and their families will be in attendance, which includes a pre-game parade for all participating Junior Giants, as well as, game time activities such as National Anthem, Jr. Announcer and seventh inning stretch. All attendees are given a food coupon as well. Junior Giants serves over 13,000 kids in 75 communities throughout California, Oregon and Nevada. Following the game after exiting the park, kids interested in running the bases may take part in See's Kids Run the Bases. Enter through the gates located in the right field corner approximately 10 minutes after the conclusion of the game.
Building on the success of the LGBT Night Out parties in 2004-2006, the Giants are proud to bring back LGBT Night this season with multiple price points. On Monday, Aug. 27, LGBT Night Out, delivered by AT&T, will provide a fun, friendly and affordable event for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community of the Bay Area. The ticket package includes admission to the pre-game party beginning at 5:15, one free drink voucher and your seat in the View Reserved level.
The homestand will come to a close on Wednesday, Aug. 29 with a 12:35 contest against the Rockies and PG&E Giants Solar Day, where the first 15,000 fans will receive a cap. Following the game, the team embarks on a brief six-game roadtrip.
