Chris Dodd: Dodd Calls For Suspending Chinese Imports On Food, Toys
Cites Safety Concerns At Speech To Iowa Federation Of Labor
WATERLOO - Presidential Candidate Chris Dodd called for suspending all imports of toys and food from China and highlighted his commitment to American workers and the middle class. Dodd, who has made issues affecting the middle class a critical part of his campaign through his series of Kitchen Tables and policy proposals entitled Middle Class Matters, addressed the Iowa Federation of Labor and called for tough standards to ensure fair trade with China.
"This is an issue of safety," said Dodd. "Parents should be confident that the toys and food that they give their children have been inspected and are safe. That's why I am calling on the President to use his authority to immediately suspend all imports of toys and food from China. It's not enough to simply talk about working for fair trade agreements. We need leadership that will act to enforce fair trade. We have the legal right and power under the WTO to keep products out of our country that threaten the health and safety of our families, and I'm going to do all I can to ensure we do so."
Dodd also cited his long record of experience in fighting for the middle class and argued that his bold leadership and record of results would bring about a real change for the middle class, who have suffered under 6 years of the Bush Administration's failed leadership.
Dodd will continue to campaign in Iowa with his family through Monday, August 20th and will hold a Community Kitchen Table in Tama, IA this evening.
