Pittsburgh Pirates Weekend Parking and Traffic Information
08/15/2007 -- On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 16 through 18, the Pittsburgh Pirates will host the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. The following traffic information will be helpful to those fans coming to the game, as well as downtown commuters.
Thursday, August 16:
• The Roberto Clemente Bridge and Federal Street will close to vehicular traffic beginning at 10 a.m. and re-open at midnight.
Friday and Saturday, August 17 and 18:
• The Roberto Clemente Bridge and Federal Street will close to vehicular traffic beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday morning and will remain closed until 11:59 p.m. on Saturday.
Federal Street and the sidewalk on the East side of the Roberto Clemente Bridge will remain open to pedestrian traffic throughout the entire weekend.
The closures are due to Skyblast fireworks being launched from the bridge. Zambelli will require the utilization of the bridge for setup and housing of their equipment throughout the weekend. All Skyblast shows are scheduled to start approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of each game.
The Pirates are expecting near capacity crowds. Some additional parking options for Downtown commuters and Pirates fans to consider are:
• Mass transit. The Port Authority provides more than 50 bus routes and the "T" to downtown from all over the area. If you're going to the game and using the "T", get off at either the Wood Street or Gateway Center stations and walk across the Roberto Clemente Bridge to PNC Park.
• Downtown, David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Mon Wharf, First Side Garage parking. These are possible alternative parking sites for downtown commuters who normally park on the North Shore and for game attendees. Fans parking at the First Side Garage can take the "T" (at no charge) to the Wood Street station and then walk across the Clemente Bridge to the ballpark.
• Parking to the east and west of North Shore lots. The following are additional lots available for gameday parking:
- to the east - River Road lots (near Del Monte - formerly the old Heinz Plant).
- to the west - Ridge Avenue lots, Fulton Avenue lot (near the West End Bridge) and Brighton Avenue lot (across from West Park).
