MLBPAA, Freddie Mac Foundation to Host Free Clinic with Washington Nationals at RFK
Kids to learn from former pros in the "Legends for Youth" program
08/14/2007, COLORADO SPRINGS -- The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) announced today that the Washington Nationals have again teamed up with the Freddie Mac Foundation and Play Ball DC, the umbrella organization for youth baseball and softball in the DC-area, to host the fifth Annual "Legends for Youth" clinic at RFK Stadium this Friday, Aug. 17 at 9 a.m. The clinic is free of charge and will include 250 pre-registered children, ranging from ages six to 16, from Washington, DC and surrounding areas. However, please be advised that registration for this event has closed.
This annual event is in its fifth year in the DC area and its third year with the Washington Nationals serving as the official host. Among the list of Legends to be assisting in the clinic are former Senator great Frank Howard and four-time All-Star with the Philadelphia Phillies and the California Angles, Bob Boone.
For the fifth year in a row, the clinic is being funded by one of the largest corporate contributors in the DC area, the Freddie Mac Foundation. Created in 1991, the Foundation's grants and charitable contributions have gone to creating hope and opportunity for more than 1.7 million children and their families. As part of its work, the Foundation invests in programs like this that help youth reach their full potential.
The MLBPAA Legends for Youth Program gives children across the country a chance to learn baseball fundamentals and life skills from former Major League Legends, and in the past has involved such greats as Brooks Robinson, Phil Niekro, and Fergie Jenkins. Celebrating its 25th Anniversary, the Alumni Association is a non-profit organization that was formed to promote the game of baseball, raise money for charity, inspire and educate youth through positive sport images and protect the dignity of the game through former players.
