HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros will host Craig Biggio Tribute Weekend Sept. 28-30 to honor the longtime Astro for his 20-year career with the organization. Craig Biggio announced on July 24 that he will retire at the conclusion of the 2007 season after a career in which he became the 27th player all-time to reach the 3,000-hit plateau.
The Houston Astros will wear a uniform from each era of Craig Biggio's career during the three-game series against the Atlanta Braves that weekend. The Houston Astros - Atlanta Braves game on Sunday, Sept. 30, is already sold out.
On Friday, the team will wear the rainbow sleeve jersey from the late 1980s that the seven-time All-Star first wore as his Major League career began. Houston Astros game-worn jerseys will then be given away to randomly selected fans before the postgame Friday Night Fireworks show, presented by Marathon Oil Corporation, weather permitting. The first 20,000 fans on Friday night will receive a Biggio rainbow sleeve jersey T-Shirt compliments of Administaff.
Houston will don the gold star uniforms from the 1990s on Saturday. Saturday's jerseys will be auctioned off by the Astros with all proceeds benefiting the Sunshine Kids, a support organization for children with cancer and for their families. Biggio has served as the Sunshine Kids spokesperson for more than 16 years. A special fireworks show presented by Marathon Oil Corporation will follow the Astros-Braves game on Saturday night, weather permitting.
On Sunday, the Houston Astros will wear the current brick red jerseys. The uniforms will be auctioned online in the days following the game, with proceeds to benefit the Astros in Action Foundation. The first 20,000 fans on Sunday will receive a Biggio Jersey T-Shirt similar to the ones the team will wear during the final regular season game of Biggio's career courtesy of Dodge. All fans in attendance on Sunday will also receive commemorative "I Was There" Biggio Tribute Weekend cards.
Fans will have the opportunity to win various Fan Appreciation prizes during the weekend, and all three days will feature unique pre-game concerts at the Conoco Home Run Pump from a variety of bands.
For tickets, call 1-877-9ASTROS or log on to astros.com. Limited tickets for the games on Friday and Saturday are still available.
