August 14, 2007 - The Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth is committed to improving existing products and services in order to effectively serve the citizens of Michigan. The August edition of the Job Show, the monthly cable TV show produced by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth (DLEG) highlights this commitment by featuring the prevailing wage law, on-site licensing, and how the state of Michigan has enhanced and strengthened their process.

The 30-minute program, hosted by DLEG's Nirva Civilus, features DLEG Director Keith Cooley and Pat Devlin, CEO of the Michigan State Building & Construction Trades Council, discussing the standard of quality the Prevailing Wage Act creates for public works projects, the benefits it provides to construction workers and Michigan's overall economy. In addition, the two also share what DLEG's Wage & Hour Division, along with the Trades Council and other partners, are doing to bring more awareness to the Act.

Also during the show, Tom Byrne and Paige Colley, administrators from the Bureau of Commercial Services (BCS), stop by to talk about DLEG's new on-site licensing program. They state the advantages and demonstrate how the streamlined process is giving new license holders a jumpstart in their career with the issuance of an immediate picture-pocket license card.

The Job Show will cablecast throughout the month of August on 78 cable TV systems statewide. To find out when the 30-minute show will air on your local cable channel, visit the Job Show website at www.michigan.gov/thejobshow
