08/13/2007, PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that Circle K will present a concert featuring pop rock band Smash Mouth on Sept. 7 at Chase Field. The concert will take place on the field following the 6:40 p.m. game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The concert is free with a ticket to that night's game.
Formed in San Jose, Calif., in 1994, Smash Mouth consists of Steve Harwell (lead singer), Greg Camp (guitarist), Paul De Lisle (bassist) and Jason Sutter (drummer). The band developed into a novelty rock band with surf and garage influences before hitting the mainstream music scene in 1997 with their 1950s-influenced No. 1 hit "Walkin' on the Sun." The hit propelled the group's first studio album, Fush Yu Mang, to sell more than two million copies, which also included the hit "Why Can't We Be Friends?"
Smash Mouth's follow-up album, Astro Lounge, was released in 1999 and sold more than three million copies, easily becoming the band's most critically acclaimed album. Astro Lounge featured the single, "All-Star," which shot to No. 1 in the summer of 1999 and was also featured on the soundtracks for the movies Mystery Men and later Shrek and Rat Race. The album also featured Top 20 hits "Can't Get Enough of You Baby" and "Then the Morning Comes."
In 2001, Smash Mouth covered The Monkees hit "I'm a Believer," which became a Top 10 hit after it was featured on the Shrek soundtrack and later on the group's third studio album, Smash Mouth. The group has since followed with other album releases, including Get the Picture? (2003), All-Star: The Smash Hits (2005) and Summer Girl (2006).
