MLB: New York Yankees Crush Cleveland Indians
12 August 2007 -- New York slugger Alex Rodriguez hit a pair of two-run home runs Saturday to lead the Yankees to an 11-2 win over the Cleveland Indians in a Major League Baseball matchup.
Rodriguez leads the majors with 39 homers.
Pitcher Mike Mussina earned his 100th win as a Yankee, becoming only the ninth pitcher in the majors to win at least 100 games for two teams. He had 147 wins with the Baltimore Orioles, before coming to New York.
The Boston Red Sox still lead the Yankees by five games in the American League East division race, after defeating the Orioles, 6-2. Boston's Josh Beckett became the first pitcher in the majors to win 15 games this season.
Seattle held off the Chicago White Sox, 7-6, as the Mariners' Yuniesky Betancourt hit his first career grand slam. The Detroit Tigers beat the Oakland Athletics, 5-2. The Los Angeles Angels edged the Minnesota Twins, 4-3. The Kansas City Royals downed the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-1. And the Tampa Bay Devil Rays shut down the Texas Rangers, 3-0.
In the National League, former pitcher Rick Ankiel hit two home runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 6-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cincinnati Reds tripped up the San Diego Padres, 8-3. The Pittsburgh Pirates erased the San Francisco Giants, 13-3. The Milwaukee Brewers rallied with four runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Houston Astros, 7-4.
Florida's Josh Willingham hit his first career grand slam to lead the Marlins to a 7-5 win over the New York Mets. The Arizona Diamondbacks eked out a 1-0 win over the Washington Nationals. The Atlanta Braves downed the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-5. And the Colorado Rockies thrashed the Chicago Cubs, 15-2. Jamey Carroll hit a pinch-hit grand slam to break open a tie game in the sixth inning.
