Cleveland Indians Promote INF Asdrubal Cabrera from AAA Buffalo

08/07/2007, CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has purchased the contract of INF Asdrubal Cabrera from the AAA Buffalo Bisons. To allow room on the 25-man roster for Cabrera the Indians designated INF Mike Rouse for assignment.

Cabrera, 21, has put together an impressive season between AA Akron and AAA Buffalo. He began the year at Akron where he hit .310 (114-368) with 23 doubles, 3 triples, 8 home runs and 54 RBI in 96 games. He also stole 23 bases in 30 attempts and scored 78 runs. At the time of his July 30 promotion to Buffalo he was leading the Eastern League in runs scored and was 4th in both hits and stolen bases. He hit .336 (51-152) with runners on base and .323 (92-285) off RHP at Double-A while posting hitting streaks of 12 and 13 games.

At AAA Buffalo he hit .316 (12-38) with 3 2B & 3RBI in 9 games. Overall on the year he is now hitting .310 (126-406) with 26 2B, 8HR & 57 RBI in 105 games. He currently ranks 1st in the entire organization in runs scored (84, T14th in the minors), is 2nd in stolen bases (25) and 4th in batting average. Between AA and AAA, the switch-hitter has already established career highs with 8 HR, 25 SB, 47 walks and 84 runs, while his .310 AVG, .380 OBP, and .448 SLG to date also represent personal bests. He will be making his debut at the Major League level and will wear #13. The Venezuelan native was acquired from the Seattle Mariners in June of 2006 for INF Eduardo Perez.

Rouse hit .119 (8-67) in 41 games for Cleveland this year.
