Several Kansas Fire Districts Awarded Federal Grants
July 27, 2007 -- Thirteen fire districts and EMS units in Kansas have been selected to receive grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Governor Kathleen Sebelius said today.
“This support is critical to public safety and will help Kansas firefighters and emergency responders protect their communities,” said Sebelius.
The grants are for one of two categories: vehicle acquisition or operations and safety. The grants are administered by the Homeland Security Department’s Office for Domestic Preparedness in cooperation with the United States Fire Administration. Recipients in each category are as follows:

Marshall Co. Rural Fire District No. 9 $11,225
Hoisington EMS $25,983
Rush County Fire District #6 $24,984
Oketo / Balderson Rural Fire District # 5 $34,270
Everest Volunteer Fire Dept. $42,845
Laharpe Fire Dept. $20,283
Ottawa Fire Department $118,750
Crawford County EMS $17,145
Nemaha County Fire Dist. #3 $29,716
Halstead Fire/EMS $29,925
Vehicle Acquisition
Norton County Rural Fire District #2 $229,154
Jefferson County Fire District #12 $180,500
