MLB: Minnesota Twins Beat Oakland Athletics in 9th

16 July 2007 -- In Major League Baseball Sunday, Minnesota's Joe Mauer drove in the game-ending run in the ninth inning to give the Twins a 4-3 win over the Oakland Athletics.

Minnesota's Justin Morneau had tied the game with a home run in the eighth inning.

In another American League contest, Mark Teixeira of Texas homered to lead off the 11th inning, leading the Rangers to a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

Detroit pitcher Justin Verlander earned his 11th win of the year as the Tigers beat the Seattle Mariners, 11-7. The Toronto Blue Jays edged the Boston Red Sox, 2-1. The New York Yankees rallied past the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 7-6. The Cleveland Indians downed the Kansas City Royals, 5-3. And the Baltimore Orioles handed Chicago pitcher Jose Contreras his league-high 11th loss in a 5-3 decision over the White Sox.

In the National League, the Chicago Cubs completed a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros, eking out a 7-6 victory. The New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds, 5-2. The Atlanta Braves defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-1. The Milwaukee Brewers downed the Colorado Rockies, 4-3. Florida's Miguel Cabrera hit two solo home runs in the Marlins' 5-3 win over the Washington Nationals. The San Diego Padres shut down the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-0. The Los Angeles Dodgers beat their archrivals - the San Francisco Giants - for the 11th straight time, earning a 5-3 victory. And the St. Louis Cardinals routed the Phillies 10-2 - the 10,000th loss in the history of the Philadelphia franchise.
