MLB: Atlanta Braves Edge Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4
15 July 2007 -- In Major League Baseball, Atlanta's Jeff Francoeur hit a bases-loaded single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Braves a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In another National League contest Saturday, Milwaukee pinch-hitter Tony Graffanino singled in the game-ending run in the 10th inning, giving the Brewers a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
The Los Angeles Dodgers eked out an 8-7 win over the San Francisco Giants in 12 innings. The New York Mets tripped up the Cincinnati Reds, 2-1. The Chicago Cubs beat the Houston Astros, 9-3. The Philadelphia Phillies swatted out three home runs in their 10-4 win over the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals. The Florida Marlins also hit three homers in their 5-2 victory over the Washington Nationals. And the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied from a four-run deficit to beat the San Diego Padres, 5-4
In an exciting finish in the American League, Baltimore's Nick Markakis singled in the game-ending run with two outs in the 10th inning to give the Orioles a 7-6 win over the Chicago White Sox.
The Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 9-4. The Minnesota Twins edged the Oakland Athletics, 4-3. The Kansas City Royals built a 5-0 lead over Cleveland, then held on to beat the Indians, 6-5. The New York Yankees downed the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 6-4. The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Texas Rangers, 9-5. And the Seattle Mariners used Kenji Johjima's grand slam home run off Detroit pitcher Kenny Rogers to beat the Tigers, 6-4.
