MLB: Oakland Athletics Shut Out New York Yankees
01 July 2007 -- In Major League Baseball, Oakland pitchers Chad Gaudin and Rich Harden combined for a one-hitter, leading the Athletics to a 7-0 win over the lethargic New York Yankees.
Gaudin gave up a single in the sixth inning Saturday, while his Oakland teammates hit three home runs off Yankee pitcher Kei Igawa.
The Yankees have not scored in their last 16 innings.
In another American League contest, the Central division-leading Cleveland Indians handed the Tampa Bay Devil Rays their sixth straight loss in an 8-6 decision. Pitcher C. C. Sabathia became the majors' first 12-game winner.
The Minnesota Twins handed the defending American League champion Detroit Tigers their fourth loss in five games with an 8-5 win. The Texas Rangers used Sammy Sosa's 602nd career homer to edge the Boston Red Sox, 5-4. The Baltimore Orioles doubled the Los Angeles Angels, 6-3. Chicago's Tadahito Iguchi singled in two runs with two outs in the top of the 10th inning, giving the White Sox a 3-1 victory over Kansas City, snapping the Royals' five-game winning streak. And the Seattle Mariners won their seventh straight game, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-3.
In the National League, the Mets' Carlos Beltran hit two home runs for the second straight game, leading New York to an 8-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Milwaukee Brewers clubbed the Chicago Cubs, 13-4. The Atlanta Braves edged the Florida Marlins, 6-5. The Cincinnati Reds got by the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-1. The Colorado Rockies snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 5-0 win over the Houston Astros. The Pittsburgh Pirates scored six runs in the second inning on the way to beating the Washington Nationals, 7-2. The San Francisco Giants defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-1. And the San Diego Padres scored twice in the top of the 12th inning to get by the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-1.
