Paris Hilton: Paris Hilton Transferred to New Jail Cell
14 June 2007 -- Paris Hilton has been transferred from a medical ward at a Los Angeles county jail to the all-women's facility where she will serve the remainder of her sentence for a probation violation.
The move occurred late on June 13, when she was returned to the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, CA. The 26-year-old celebrity heiress' case has created a firestorm of controversy, with critics claiming Sheriff Lee Baca gave her special treatment by last week placing her under house arrest.
He claims Hilton merited the move because she suffered from an undisclosed medical condition.
On June 8, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer summoned Hilton to court and restored her jail sentence. A day later, Paris Hilton released a statement saying she would not appeal the ruling.
She is expected to serve 23 days with credit for good behavior. Attorneys familiar with the Los Angeles County jail system say Hilton's treatment is neither special nor unusual: penal facilities are so overcrowded that many inmates serve only 10 percent of their sentences for non-violent crimes.
