Arkansas Governor Beebe Appoints First Female Arkansas Bank Commissioner
June 13, 2007 -- LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe has named Candace Franks of Little Rock as the new commissioner of the Arkansas State Bank Department.
Franks, 54, will be the first woman to serve as Arkansas Bank Commissioner. She is a 27-year veteran of the Bank Department, hired in 1980 as the Department’s General Counsel and then named Deputy Bank Commissioner in 1995.
“Candace has a wealth of institutional knowledge and the respect of bankers throughout our state,” Beebe said. “She is an even-handed regulator who will continue to advance the Department’s mission of providing convenient, safe and competitive banking for Arkansans.”
A native of Jonesboro, Franks received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Arkansas State University and her law degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She has served on two Governor’s Task Forces addressing Arkansas banking issues and has been a member of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors since 1980.
