Takes over 20% of the vote with 9 candidates on the ballot

May 29, 2007 -- DES MOINES, Ia. – United States Senator Sam Brownback secured a first-place straw poll win tonight in Grundy County, Iowa, taking over 20% of the vote with 9 candidates on the ballot.

"Our campaign continues to build momentum across the Hawkeye State," said Kevin McLaughlin, president of Iowans for Discounted Taxes and a leading member of the Iowans for Brownback Committee. "Senator Brownback's message of uniting the fiscal and social conservative wings of our party continues to resonate with Iowans across the state."

Grundy County is in the 3rd Congressional District in Iowa and the straw poll was commissioned by the Grundy County Republican Central Committee.

Brownback's straw poll win comes on the heels of a whirlwind tour of Iowa in which he visited with over 750 Christian leaders in Council Bluffs, Sioux City, Des Moines, Ames, Davenport, and Cedar Rapids with Christian leader David Barton. Brownback also opened up his Iowa Headquarters in West Des Moines on Friday to a standing-room only group of supporters and activists.

Brownback was also recently endorsed by Iowa State Senator Mark Zieman.

"Sam Brownback is a proven leader on social and economic issues, and he's the only candidate Iowans can trust to continue to fight for the unborn, traditional marriage and lower taxes in the White House," said Zieman.
