MLB: Blue Jays Beat Twins in 13 Innings
27 May 2007 -- The Washington Nationals' new baseball field (artist's rendering)In Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays beat the host Minnesota Twins, 9-8, when Llye Overbay drove in his fourth run of the game with a two-out single in the 13th inning.
Toronto came back to win the game Saturday after giving up leads in the ninth and 11th innings.
In another American League contest, the Boston Red Sox improved on the best record in the majors (33-15), scoring five runs in the sixth inning to down the Texas Rangers, 7-4.
The Cleveland Indians beat the defending league-champion Tigers for the second straight day in Detroit, building on their Central division lead with a 6-3 victory. David Dellucci snapped a 3-3 tie with a two-run home run in the eighth inning.
The Los Angeles Angels got by the New York Yankees, 3-1. The Baltimore Orioles beat the Oakland Athletics, 8-3. And the Seattle Mariners pounded the Kansas City Royals, 9-1, as Kenji Johjima hit his first major league grand slam.
In the National League, the Chicago Cubs doubled the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-2. The Philadelphia Phillies have a winning record for the first time this season after defeating the Atlanta Braves, 6-4. The New York Mets used two home runs by Carlos Delgado to down the Florida Marlins, 7-2. The Pittsburgh Pirates scored four runs in the first inning on the way to beating the Cincinnati Reds, 9-5. The Colorado Rockies tripped up the San Francisco Giants, 6-1.
The defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals ended the Washington Nationals four-game winning streak in an 8-6 contest. The Arizona Diamondbacks edged Houston, 5-4, sending the Astros to their seventh straight loss. And the San Diego Padres downed the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-3.
