Oklahoma Governor Henry Seeks Federal Disaster Declaration for Flooding, Tornado Damage

May 25, 2007 -- Oklahoma City -- Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry today asked President Bush for a federal disaster declaration for 25 Oklahoma counties hit hard by severe spring storms. If approved, public entities impacted by tornadoes, flooding and other severe storms that occurred May 4-11 will receive assistance for expenses related to response and recovery efforts.

The counties in the request are: Atoka, Beckham, Blaine, Bryan, Caddo, Canadian, Comanche, Dewey, Ellis, Garfield, Grady, Greer, Hughes, Kay, Kiowa, Lincoln, Logan, McIntosh, Noble, Nowata, Okfuskee, Pottawatomie, Roger Mills, Seminole and Woodward.

Preliminary estimates show $4.8 million in damage to municipalities, counties and rural electric systems. Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the Federal Emergency Management Agency joined local officials in completing the damage survey.
