Sam Brownback: Brownback Endorses Texas Pro-life Bill
May 14, 2007 -- ALEXANDRIA, Va—U.S. Senator Sam Brownback, Republican candidate for President, today commented on recent pro-life legislation in Texas, State Senate Bill 920, which would enhance the informed consent provision on in-state abortions.
"Any and every effort to affirm the dignity of the unborn should be embraced. Period," Brownback said.
The bill would require physicians to provide women with the opportunity to view an ultrasound before proceeding with an abortion. "Women, physicians and society should not be kept in the dark about the medical and moral reality of abortion. Life is sacred and should be protected, not neglected," he continued.
The statement came during a campaign stop in South Carolina, nearly one month after the Supreme Court's decision to uphold a federal ban on partial birth abortions. Senator Brownback is scheduled to attend the second Republican Presidential debate tomorrow in Columbia, SC.
