California Governor Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on UC Winning Contract to Operate Lawrence Livermore Laboratory
05/08/2007 -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement after the University of California won the contract to continue operating the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy:
“This is a great victory for the people of California and the University of California. The decision to award the contract to manage and operate the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to the University of California reaffirms the high standards of our public university system and the high quality of the talented and insightful employees at our research institutions.
“The Laboratory is a top-notch research facility that has provided critical solutions in areas ranging from homeland security to biotechnology to energy and the environment.
“I am proud that Californians will continue serving in this critical role to help our nation. With some of the finest universities and research institutions, California has more scientists, engineers and researchers and invests more on research and development than any other state. We will reap tremendous rewards for our economy and environment by keeping California at the forefront of research and innovation. Today’s announcement reinforces our position as a national leader in science and technology.”
