MLB: Tigers Crush Royals
07 May 2007 -- In baseball's major leagues, the Detroit Tigers hit three, two-run home runs in the second inning Sunday on the way to trouncing the Kansas City Royals, 13-4.
Former Kansas City pitcher Chad Durbin earned the win for the defending American League champion Tigers, who have won seven straight games.
In another A.L. contest, Chicago's A.J. Pierzynski hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the eighth inning against the Los Angeles Angels, then drove home the go-ahead run in the 10th to give the visiting White Sox a 4-3 win.
Chicago's other team, the Cubs, also won in 10 innings. Daryle Ward drove home the game-ending run in the Cubs' 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals. Chicago tied the game in the ninth.
Elsewhere in the National League, Milwaukee slugger Prince Fielder hit two home runs to lead the Brewers to a 6-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cincinnati Reds snapped a four-game losing streak with a 9-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies. The San Diego Padres got by the Florida Marlins, 3-1. The Atlanta Braves rallied to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 6-4. The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Houston Astros, 3-1. The Arizona Diamondbacks downed the New York Mets, 3-1. And, the Philadelphia Phillies tripped up the San Francisco Giants, 8-5.
In American League contests, the New York Yankees shut down the Seattle Mariners, 5-0, on the day Yankee fans learned star pitcher Roger Clemens was joining the team. The Boston Red Sox edged the Minnesota Twins, 4-3. The Cleveland Indians beat the Baltimore Orioles, 9-6. The Texas Rangers got by the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-2. And, the Oakland Athletics downed the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 5-3.
