New Hampshire Governor Announces Community Action Agencies Assisting Flood Victims with FEMA Registration Process
May 3, 2007 -- CONCORD - New Hampshire Governor John Lynch announced today individuals who suffered damage in the floods will be able to get assistance in the flood recovery process at four local flood recovery centers, operated jointly by New Hampshire's community action programs, the state and FEMA.
"The only way to qualify for FEMA assistance is to register with FEMA, and I encourage New Hampshire citizens who were impacted by the floods to begin the registration process as soon as possible. FEMA's financial assistance can be an important help to our families as they begin to rebuild their lives," Gov. Lynch said. "Once again, our nonprofits and state agencies have come forward to help make that assistance possible."
New Hampshire residents with flood damage should call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. Those with speech and hearing impairments may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. Registration is also available online at www.fema.gov.
Last week, President Bush granted Gov. Lynch's request for a federal disaster declaration making individual assistance and Small Business Administration assistance available for Grafton, Hillsborough, Merrimack, Rockingham, and Strafford counties.
Flood recovery centers are open at the following locations: the Community Action Program office for Belknap-Merrimack County at 2 Industrial Park in Concord; Pine Acres Campground at 74 Freetown Road in Raymond; Southern NH Services at 40 Pine Street in Manchester; and Strafford County Community Action office at 1 Wakefield Street #306 in Rochester.
A FEMA mobile recovery center will be in Grafton County this weekend, with the location to be determined.
At the flood recovery centers, individuals can get help with the FEMA process, and information regarding other available flood recovery assistance, such as mold mitigation, clothing and temporary shelter.
People with flood-related questions or concerns can call the state's flood relief hotline at 1-800-458-2407. Although the hotline cannot take applications for FEMA assistance, callers can get information about a range of flood-related issues. Businesses affected by the Nor'easter can call the Business Resource Center at the Department of Resources and Development at 1-800-417-4110.
In addition, Gov. Lynch also encouraged New Hampshire citizens to support the flood relief efforts to help families recover from losses that may not be covered by FEMA.
"FEMA assistance likely won't be enough for some of our hardest-hit families. For some of these families, this is the second time in less than a year they have been forced from their homes due to severe flooding," Gov. Lynch said. "That is why I am encouraging everyone in New Hampshire to consider contributing to the State of New Hampshire Disaster Relief Fund, which will get our families on the road to recovery."
Donations to the relief fund can be made online at www.nh.gov, or by sending a check to:
State of New Hampshire, Disaster Relief
25 Capitol Street, Room 121
Concord, NH 03301
In addition, Gov. Lynch will kick-off a telethon on WMUR-TV on Monday, May 7, to help raise money for the New Hampshire Disaster Relief Fund.
