Kennedy On House Passage Of The Improving Head Start Act
May 2, 2007 -- WASHINGTON, D.C—Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, released the following statement in response to the House of Representatives passage of the Improving Head Start Act.
“I commend the House for its action supporting Head Start, and for rejecting yet again the Administration’s misguided attempt to block grant the program. Every child deserves the chance to succeed in school, and Head Start is one of the most important and effective poverty-fighting programs to provide that opportunity. We have an opportunity this year to expand access to this essential program, strengthen the Head Start workforce, coordinate the program more effectively with other early childhood education programs, and do more to see that Head Start helps children prepare for school and for life. I look forward to action on our Senate bill and to enactment of this important legislation.”
