Senator Barack Obama Statement on the U.S. Olympic Committee's Selection of Chicago
City will now represent U.S. in bid for 2016 Olympics
April 14, 2007 -- U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) today released the following statement on the U.S. Olympic Committee's Selection of Chicago to represent the U.S. in its bid to host the 2016 Olympics:
"All Chicagoans can be proud that our great city now will represent our country in bidding for the 2016 Olympic Games. I congratulate Mayor Daley and the Chicago Olympic Committee for their good work, and I look forward to continuing to work with them on behalf of our bid. I believe that a Chicago Olympics can help restore our nation's standing as a source of hope and opportunity around the globe while bringing lasting benefits to the residents of our region."
